CROSSHAIR TOOL
Status Quo
- Select Crosshair tool
- Select "Kind" to be "2 Lines (90°)"
- The two lines always point north and east, regardless into which direction you drag
Feedback and Use Case Considerations
- Maybe the current behavior is practical to some users
- But mostly one needs a crosshair tool to add cut lines
- And these cut lines usually face away from the edges of the rectangle which is to be kept.
- So drag-direction should be considered for how to the 2-line-crosshair
Improvement Proposal
- Either just redo the functionality of "2 Lines (90°)" (or leave it for backwards compatibility)
- Or create a new kind "2 Lines (90° facing away from corner)"
- The two lines two each other are still in 90°
- The drag-axis is rounded to the next 45°, 135°, 225°, 315°.
- The two lines are drawn in -45°and +45° to that axis.
- Like if dragging north-east currently, one hair grows towards north, the other hair grows towards east
- But the same behavior for all 4 axis.
[Added] Crosshair Tool's shape "2 Lines 90° facing away from corner" would be more intuitive

Your added hardcoded settings work.
What about the more flexible "2 Lines (90° facing away from corner)" which is relative to mouse movement. That would be so much more convenient & efficient.

Technical users like more the degree value. But you get always the preview.

Yes but for drawing 4 corners it is really cumbersome now.
Currently: 8 steps needed:
1a) Select top-left marker style.
1b) Create top-left marking on canvas.
2a) Select top-right marking type.
2b) Create top-right marking on canvas.
3a) Select bottom-right marking type.
3a) Create bottom-right marking on canvas.
4a) Select bottom-left marking type.
4b) Create bottom-left marking on canvas.
Proposed: Only 5 steps needed:
1) Select marker style "2 Lines (90° facing away from corner)" .
2-5) Create the markers on canvas, without needing to go back to the tool settings after each step, as the mouse dragging on the canvas sets the direction for you.
